WHY YET NO FOKKER G1 REPLICA?

HOME

The average dutch aircraft nut has a lot to wish for concerning the number historic aircraft. The Fokker G1 is one of them.

Before the second world war the Netherlands were blessed with a large number of aircraft manufacturers. The war ended this abruptly. After the war only Fokker rose from it's ashes. The war over, the primairy thought was rebuilding the country. Old junk, especially things related to loosing the war, had to be discarded. Because of this thorough cleansing, today hardly any aircraft and documents from before WW2 exist today in the Netherlands.

Accoording to most dutch insiders the Fokker G1 Mercury is the best thing which ever came out of a dutch aircraft factory. The story is here also not much different, they succeeded in destroying almost all related documents and drawings. All that remain are some scattered document, sketches and drawings in several archieves. Parts are even more rare, the largest piece in existence today is an tailboom from a Wasp version.

To be able to start building a replica we need to reconstruct the drawings. These drawings have to be made using surviving information. We have to reverse engineer the aircraft !

Essentially that is what I am working on.

The collecting of the surviving documents and information is one of the goals of the Fokker G1 foundation

Using these documents, me and some others are reconstructing the Fokker G1. This website shows my work being done. The intention is to keep this website up to date so you can see the work in progress. To give you an idea about the scope of work, what you see on this website is the volunteer work of 8 years!
